The Monaco Farm is situated in the city hall of Tortoreto, in the tiny hamlet of Cavatassi, at approximately 200m above sea level. The farm is located within the Dop Pretuziano Colline Teramane area. The terrain is typically hilly with a mild climate, where the Laga Mountains’ upward air flows meet and mingle with the air currents from the Adriatic coastline, resulting in an ideal microclimate for olive cultivation. The cultivars that comprise the 1000 tree olive grove are: Leccino, Frantoio, Dritta, Pendolino, Carboncella and Tortiglione. The harvest takes place during the months of October and November. The olives are taken to the mill in well-aerated creates and milled within the following 6 hours. Oil extraction is carried out with modern processing methods. The Monaco Company’s main goal is to produce an extra virgin olive oil which is made with the utmost care and respect for the environment and health, without the use of pesticides, and limited to simple cultivation and pruning operations. The farm was founded in 1970 by Dr. Ruggero Monaco who had a portion of the existing olive grove planted. During the 1990s, his son, Mauro, ran the farm until he ceded management to his wife, Simona, in 2010. The farm is located in the center of a hilly area of olive trees, five minutes by car from the old town center of Tortoreto. Two accommodations are available for visitors. Periodically, or upon request, brief meetings presenting information on olive oil in addition to tastings are organized.
